BIO
With an effortless style that seems to run in the blood of Scandinavian riders these days, Torstein Horgmo is one of the most powerful riders to emerge from Norway’s kicker crowd. It would be an understatement to say that 2008 has been a good season for Torstein, who recently captured first at the Winter Dew Tour stop in Vermont, nailing a switch backside 1260 on his final run. He added the win to a growing list for 2008 which includes first at the TTR Nissan X-Trail Jam in Tokyo and a first place in Slopestyle at the Burton Australian Open this September. Beforehand at Oakley Stylewars in August, Torstein won Best Trick with his switch BS 1260—the same trick that earned him a Gold medal in the Big Air event at Winter X Games 12.
After a broken back nearly ended his career three years ago, Torstein rehabbed in time to have an amazing 2007. He had strong contest finishes all year—especially in slopestyle and Big Air—that quickly launched him to the top of the Ticket To Ride World Tour leader board and earned him a nomination for “Rookie of the Year” in the ’07 TransWorld Rider Poll Awards. Finally, he closed out the amazing year with one of the most memorable covers of ’07, the December issue of Snowboarder Magazine that saw him hitting a New Zealand kicker alongside a flying Subaru rally car piloted by DC co-founder Ken Block. Filming this season with Standard Films and competing on the TTR World Tour, there’s no doubt we’ll see much more of Torstein this year and for years to come.
