Over the last few weeks members of the DC team have been in Australia for a few opposite season comps, with Chas Guldemond and Torstein Horgmo fairing especially well. Chas won the Boost Mobile SnoSho, while Torstein got best trick at Stylewars with a Switch BS 1260, and went on to win Slopstyle at the Australian Open a week later. DC women's am Raewyn Reid put icing on the cake with a 2nd place finish in women's slopestyle at the Ausi Open.
Things started out with Chas winning SnoSho and $15,000 that came with that top spot. "To just come out and have some fun with my friends and go home with 15 grand after landing all my tricks in the finals is just the best feeling ever. I'm so stoked."
Warm weather and clear skies accompanied Torstein's best trick (or One Hitter) honors at Stylewars. He said, "I wanted to try the 12 and I got it around so I was pretty happy about that and I got the front ten a lot better and a few mellow fives. The jumps just got better and better everyday... everyone was killing it, we couldn't have had a better day."
The last contest of the trip was the Burton Australian Open, and Torstein ended things on a high note. The slopstyle course featured a downrail, battleship rail and three massive kickers. His winning run featured a fakie backside tail 270 on the downrail, a switch 50/50 Cab 180 on the battleship, a backside 720 melon, a frontside 900 indy, and finally a switch backside 1260 melon.
"I feel really good right now," said Torstein. "I thought this course was so much fun, better than last year; you could do bigger tricks and have way more flow through the park. Everybody killed it today so I feel really fortunate to end up on top."
Congrats to Chas, Torstein and Raewyn for the great Southern Hemi results! Stay tuned for more on the boys and girls soon in the DC Newsclip and at dcshoes.com.
